Oława is a county seat, located about 18 miles from the municipal center of Wrocław. It is an important economic, social and cultural location for the region. Nearby in Jelcz-Laskowice there is a special economic zone (among others the Toyota Factory, in the vicinity of a very well know car factory) .

Oława has been located in the major road, railroad and river (The Odra River Port) transportation tract: Szczecin -Wrocław - Kraków, which is in the immediate vicinity of border roads with Germany and The Czech Republic and the center of our country.

The town has been located between two rivers: The Odra River and The Oława River, in the close neighborhood of woody regions, the nature and archeological-nature reserve in Rydzyna (the beginning of 12the century) . The town itself, of almost 800 years tradition, owns some precious sacred items coming from the beginning of 18th century, when it was ruled the sons of Jan III Sobieski . Hence the blessed Bernard Lichtenberg traces his dependence -the victom of Nazi terrorism.

Oława is the partly industrialized town. The best known factory is The "Oława" Glassworks (zinc white) , which is one of the first plants offering their shares on the Stock Exchange. A couple of foreign companies have joined them, lately. There are such companies as for example: Autoliv Poland (the car airbags) , SCA Hygiene Products, The Lorenz Bahlsen Snack-World and Asphalttechnik GmbH.

Moreover, there are many foreign companies (ex. Glazbud, and Zakpol) with The Polish shares, which succeeded greatly, here. Other plants, such as Ergis, ZNTK, Centrozłom, Fabryka Papieru (The Paper Factory) are ready to start cooperation with foreign investors. Also there are the departments of four banks.

The town has been able to solve its principal intrastructural problems. There works a new biological treatment station (the BIOLAK type) with the intermediate pumping stations, a new regional landfill cooperating with the recycling plants, water heating plant and the water supplying station for Oława from Wrocław, together with our own water intake. The Oława settlements are in 90 per cent territorially developed. The town has had its own municipal transportation for 20 years. There are also two private power plants on the Odra River. Many citizens of our town possess their vegetable and flower gardens.

There are abundant land reserves in the town disposal to build houses, industrial plants and shopping centers. A network of schools, kindergartens, culture and sport halls have been built in Oława, such as: the culture club, amphitheater, musical school, an outdoor swimming pool, the stadium, tennis courts, the sport hall, the shooting range and the shooting gallery and four hotels.

There are preparations for the building of the indoors swimming pool and the major repair of the movie theater. Nonetheless, amongst the priorities there are the restoration of the Oława Market Place and the Town Hall.

Oława cooperates with four foreign towns from Germany, The Czech Republic, Romania, and The Ukraine. Moreover, one the non-governmental organizations have started cooperation with some towns with the twin coat of arms, from the entire Europe. It seems to auger well for the future social and economic revitalization of our town.
